LAL Design Studio is a wood block print studio based in Pondicherry, where clothing is made slowly, by hand, and with intention. Rooted in traditional Indian craft, each piece reflects a quieter approach to fashion, one that values material honesty, patience, and everyday wearability.
This collection centers on organic cotton kurtas and thoughtfully made garments designed for warm climates and unhurried living.
At the heart of the LAL Design Studio collection are organic cotton kurtas made from soft mulmul fabric. The cotton is often left non bleached to preserve its natural character, resulting in garments that feel light, breathable, and gentle on the skin.
Colors are applied using eco conscious GOTS certified dyes, selected for their reduced environmental impact and suitability for daily wear. The focus is always on comfort, longevity, and ease.
Every design begins with a hand carved wooden block. Patterns are printed slowly, layer by layer, using techniques passed down through generations. This process allows for subtle variation, giving each kurta or shirt a character of its own. These differences are not flaws, but signatures of handwork. They reflect the human pace behind the cloth.
